Conclusion and future work

In year 2002 we started with our first project related to development of some MIS. It was a project of development healthcare information system for cardio, neurological and pediatric clinic of Clinical Centre Nis [8]. This was a project supported by Serbian Ministry of Health and its main tasks was developing system for medical data acquisition and reporting. Developed MIS supported specialist doctors with around 150 different examination and analysis reports kept as a part of general patient record of hospitalization. Two years ago Serbian Ministry of Science started new project [9] that should extend results from previous one by implementing specialist support modules for other clinics (many new forms and reports), including also support for ambulatory part of Serbian public health and introducing effective collaboration and data exchange procedures.

In both projects we needed to create many different forms with a mapping data table in the background, so we needed some tool that could help us in speeding up our developing process. Since no tool or routine from developing environment satisfied our needs, we decide to develop modeling and generating tool that fits in our system and suitable for developing similar systems.

Having tools like these can help a lot in developing parts of information system that shares much of same functionality, but contains different data formatted on different way. In standard developing process we could use some form generator as Mi-crosoft’s Data Form Wizard [10], but it could just generate forms with all fields from related database table with basic add/update/delete/navigate options. In our forms we needed much more – custom functionalities to fit in our system, version tracking, specialized search components, reporting profiles, both windows and web forms in the same time and defining and incorporating object in data object model.

The solutions for our needs were data modeling and generator tool presented by this research paper. Using them we made part of our development process much faster, which gave us extra time to look for solutions for more complex problems we met during developing of our MIS system. Also, produced tools can be very useful in efficient development of similar information systems with a number of tables and forms.
